Manchester-based catch92 is a producer with an ear for creating high-quality alternative hip hop, and once again he adds to his burgeoning collection of signature leftfield bumps via the new single ‘Through The Mist’ out on Asta Hiroki’s Folded Music label.

Swinging kalimbas, gentle fender rhodes, and wonky bells combine with rhythmic sound design to create an ever-evolving groove over a deep bass-heavy head-nodding ride that will get those necks twerking. Body moving beats for the heads that like hip hop to dance to.

The track is lifted from the forthcoming album ‘Patchwork’ so-called due to it’s ‘everything and anything goes’ attitude to both musical style and production method. A winding and meandering lesson in musical freedom within beat music that harks back to the likes of J Dilla’s classic record - ‘Donuts’, and the widespan creations of Madlib, and Knxwledge.

The producer himself explains how the track came together:

“Through The Mist” was the last track I made for the album. It fell together around 12-3am on a Tuesday night using my iPhone earphones on my MacBook. I played the cuts using my MacBook keyboard. I added a rough bassline because I had no idea what was going on there and built up progressive percussion. It became a personal favourite of mine for the ease I had created it - It also adds to the Patchwork theme, it doesn’t always need to be the best and newest things to create something meaningful. I have a lot of equipment to make beats but sometimes all it takes is going back to basics.”
