Manchester-based catch92 returns with a killer leftfield hip hop double-A single on Asta Hiroki's Folded Music imprint - ‘Thoughts / Break It’.

With an album due this year he offers up two tastes of whats to come, and as fans familiar with the producer have come to expect, its an expansive and intriguing collection of hip hop beats, jazzy bumps, and downtempo electronica.

First cut ‘Thoughts’ is an appropriately heady piece, where dreamy synth swells rise up from a laid back neo soul type beat as pitched vocals float into consciousness like the tracks namesake. This one wouldn’t be out of place as an Adult Swim bump or a lost track from the vaults of Stones Throw as it nods to the varied and creative works of the likes of J Dilla, Madlib, and Knxwledge.

Meanwhile on the flip ‘Break It’ is a groovy affair with vintage jazz funk guitar licks dancing around a skipping drum break before a nostalgic piano breakdown brings more waves of positivity to the party. This is definitely one for fans of classic good-time breaks and samples productions.

Compiling his work using any and every production method at his disposal has shaped this new collection from the producer. With the overarching ethos of being entirely open to exploring any musical avenue, not worrying about maintaining a specific sound, instrument, or narrative throughout the collection.
